The Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University is pleased to join the network of educators in support of the Vancouver School Board’s proposed updates to its Sexual Orientation and Gender Identities policy. We believe that the proposed policy changes reflect current research and best practices, and are well-positioned to support gender and sexuality-variant students, staff, teachers, administrators and their families in Vancouver area public schools. These changes also model for all students the forms of inclusive practices that can foster a just and democratic society for all, and should become a model upon which other educational jurisdictions refine their policies and procedures.
